Philamatheon Society of the Blind BuildingPHILOMATHEON SOCIETY OF THE BLIND

1924 - 2019

Welcome Friends of the Philomatheon Society of the Blind,

My name is David, I am the current President of the Philomatheon Society of the Blind and would like to introduce you to the Society.

We are an organization of blind people, along with family and friends, whose mission and goal is to help the blind and sightless of the community help themselves remain independent and a viable member of society. This is accomplished by way of social interaction with the members of the Society, educational programs and activities conducted by the Society. The Society also gathers information of all kinds that can help the visually impaired of the community and their family and friends.  No membership in the Society is necessary, most services are provided at no or little cost.

Please inspect our website and do not hesitate to call us if there are any questions, especially if there is a question about something that is not present on the site.

Remember, you are not alone. We are here to help, listen, or give a little push;  if necessary.

The Philomatheon Society of the Blind would like to give our support to the Massillon Museum (MassMu) and all that they have been doing make Art more accessible  to those with vision impairments.

Starting with "Blind Spot - A Matter of Perspective", and with their goal of creating awareness about accessibility initiatives and making all their exhibits in the Main Gallery with text available in Braille and having descriptive tours available for anyone inquiring, just ask at the front desk.

Future Exhibits at MassMu:  Moniker: Identity Lost and Found, June 23 - October 21, 2018 and Stark County Artists Exhibition Open on November 10, 2018.

The Philomatheon Society is proud to have two members of the Society on the Accessibility Committee that has been established at Mass Mu.  Mass Mu is forward thinking in making ART accessible to ALL.

The Glasses for All (GFA) program was started in 2011.  The program is funded from grants obtained through local agencies, such as: Austin Bailey Health & Wellness Foundation, The Aultman Foundation, and Stark Community Foundation.

The new program Glasses for All II, started in September 2014.  This expanded version of the original GFA, now gives the recipient of the "Voucher", coverage for the eye exam, as well as the cost of the frames and lenses.  (limits do apply).

This program is designed to help those in need of glasses, who have no insurance coverage for glasses and limited income.
